Questions

Service-Related Questions

Common questions about our quality assurance and testing services

What is the reconditioning process for a marine exhaust valve spindle and seat?

An exhaust valve spindle is stripped from its cage and checked for stem diameter against OEM wear limits. The spindle face and seat ring face are precision-ground on a specialized valve grinding machine. After grinding, a Dye Penetrant (PT) test is performed on the contact face to confirm no cracks exist. If the spindle is beyond the minimum acceptable diameter, it is condemned and replaced new.

Are your in-house NDT technicians certified to international marine standards?

Yes, all our Non-Destructive Testing is conducted by certified Level II and Level III NDT engineers who strictly adhere to ASTM, ISO, and major classification society guidelines. This ensures that every reconditioned marine part meets or exceeds OEM safety standards before dispatch.

What is the procedure for ultrasonic testing (UT) of a marine crankshaft?

Ultrasonic testing of a marine crankshaft involves passing high-frequency sound waves through the steel forgings, focusing particularly on the crankpins, main journals, and fillet radii. This detects subsurface discontinuities, fatigue cracks, or casting voids that are invisible to the naked eye, guaranteeing the shaft's structural integrity.

Can you arrange third-party inspection by IACS classification societies like DNV or ClassNK?

Absolutely. We routinely coordinate with surveyors from major IACS (International Association of Classification Societies) members, including DNV, Lloyd's Register, ABS, BV, and ClassNK. We prepare the machinery, perform the required tests in the surveyor's presence, and handle all documentation for final class certification.

What specific documentation is included in your material and test certificates?

Our test certificates are comprehensive. They include dimensional calibration data, hardness readings (Brinell, Rockwell, or Vickers), MPI/UT findings, technician signatures, and our quality control stamp. When required, we provide EN 10204 3.1 or 3.2 material certificates verified by a classification society.

How do you test reconditioned marine air compressors and heat exchangers before dispatch?

Reconditioned air compressors (Tanabe, Sperre, Yanmar) are reassembled with new valve plates, piston rings, and gaskets, then run on our test rig to verify capacity, final delivery pressure, and inter-stage cooling. Marine heat exchangers and coolers are Hydraulic Pressure Tested at 1.5x their rated working pressure and inspected for tube fouling and seating integrity.
